Insurance Related Litigation Work 1993 through December 2022

insurance EXPERT
The Expert Witness work involves complex property, liability and crime coverage across the United States. I have exceptional experience addressing complex liability policy forms, endorsements and reductions in coverage. My office library contains over two hundred (200) volumes of insurance & risk management text and reference publications. I subscribe to premier insurance reference publishers providing over 70,000 pages of reference materials and a subscribing member of the Insurance Library of Boston. I have uncommon access to highly credible text and reference sources.
I was involved introducing the revised Commercial General Liability (CGL) policy in three (3) states in the mid-1980s, and continuing education (CE) programs addressing complex liability coverage through the present.
I have worked with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) since it was established in the early 1970s. In addition, my large property owner clients have long experience with private flood insurance. I'm intimately familiar with both sets of providers and integration of the NFIP coverage with private coverage.
Property insurance is uncommonly complex, but is not viewed as challenging by many parties. A catastrophic property loss finds a significant percentage of the population in dire straits. Obligations found in property lease and loan agreements further complicate these issues.
publications
I have published articles and lectured to both insurance industry and insurance buyer audiences across the United States. The lecture topics include:
a. Large property and liability claims;
b. Property in the custody of others;
c. Property lease issues;
d. Bond issue financed entity risk & insurance issues;
e. Compliance with lender requirements;
f. Pollution risk;
g. Public entity risk;
h. Contractor risks;
i. Flood risk assessment;
j. Flood risk placement;
k. Liability coverage for damage to property arising from the course of work;
k. Risk assessment; and
l. A variety of related topics.
INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
I entered the insurance industry upon Honorable Discharge from military service in 1973, spending two (2) years with a national carrier and nine (9) years in the independent agency system. In 1984 I started a fee-only risk management and insurance consulting practice working across much of the United States.
I completed the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) curriculum in 1981. The CPCU curriculum consists of ten (10) upper division undergraduate and graduate level courses focused on property, liability and crime insurance related issues. I completed the Associate in Risk Management Curriculum (ARM) curriculum in 1983. The ARM curriculum is three (3) graduate level courses focused on risk identification, management and loss control.
I have been active in the Society of CPCU since 1981; serving as president of CPCU chapters in two (2) states. I have been active in the Society of Risk Management Consultants (SRMC) since 1995; having served two (2) tours on the board of directors and serving as Society president in 2010.
In addition to the Expert Witness services, I provide fee only risk management and insurance consulting services to a mix of clients in several states. Client firms include financial institutions, an Interstate toll highway, cities, counties, airports, manufacturers, mining operations, colleges, petroleum dealers, maritime oil spill response organization, hotels, utilities, franchisors, hospitals, contractors, etc.
